Reusable vs. Disposable

If you do KosherOAMC every month, then you probably don’t like wasting so many disposable plastic bags and aluminum tins. If that’s the case, then you may want to consider investing in more cook-ware.

Here’s a breakdown of my thoughts-

Reusables

PROS:

  • Cook frozen meal right in the container it’s stored in
  • Environmentally friendly

CONS:

  • Initial investment
  • Might be too large if you are tight on freezer space.
  • Cannot place directly from freezer to oven or dish will crack.

Disposables

PROS:

  • Easy clean-up
  • Space saver (important if you have limited freezer space)

CONS:

  • Wasteful
  • Cost adds up over time

The ultimate decision is up to you…  What do you prefer?

Until next time,
Shaindy

  1. What about freezing food in something like this and then removing it and wrapping in foil? When you are ready to cook, remove the “block” of food from the foil, put it back in the pyrex, and cook. The frozen food work stack well, you wouldn’t need too many containers, and you could cut down on disposable use, too. Seems like the best of both worlds.

  2. That’s a great idea! Thanks for suggesting!

  3. I line the container with foil, with lots of extra on the sides. Important to try to get everything as level as possible, freeze. Once frozen remove, seal and label, do not forget to indicate what container was used. It is easier to defrost and cook in the same container.
