Modestly Dressed

Dressing modestly is becoming increasingly hard for me as time goes on. I haven’t worked in a Jewish environment for quite some time, so there’s always that temptation of wanting to dress like everyone else. Don’t worry- I’m not talking about showing too much skin, but in this hot weather, I wouldn’t mind wearing a bit less.

I know there are beautiful reasons for dressing modestly, but all of that is easily forgotten when you’re not in the right environment. On a daily basis there’s no one encouraging me to do the right thing and all the decisions I make really boil down to my standards that I set for myself.

Modest dress isn’t the only area that’s tough when you’re the only Jew around. All other facets of life become temptations too… what we eat, how we speak, what we listen to, etc… it’s EVERYTHING! I really keep strong!

I don’t really have much else to say on the topic, just wanted to bring it up as one of those, “gosh, life’s tough!” posts.  I don’t regret any of the decisions I’ve made, but sometimes, I really understand why some Jewish women choose to only work in religious environments.

Until next time,
Shaindy
