The Gift of Forgetting (Baby Edition)

DS2 and DS3 are only a little over two years apart and yet I find it amazing how easily I forgot what it’s like to have a little baby around. Here are some of the “shockers” that came my way when DS3 joined our family:

1. Newborn babies are so small. They are scrawny and move their legs and arms in ways that tells you they just don’t really know what to do with them. They are also really cute and everyone always wants to hold them.

2. I hate washing bottles. While I was on maternity leave I breastfed exclusively, so we didn’t have to wash any bottles. Now that I’m back at work, it feels like our sink is overflowing with bottles. I think they reproduce overnight. We actually do have a lot of bottles, so I don’t have to wash them all the time, but still- bottle washing is not fun. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t need to use a special bottle brush.

3. Babies don’t sleep through the night. Ok, not really sure how I forgot about this one, but it did happen. I mean, I didn’t totally forget, but I didn’t really remember the extent of the mid-night feedings. I think Hashem made me forget this one on purpose.

4. Formula/baby food is expensive. This is another back to work shocker, since we now have to supplement with formula. I try to pump at work, but with DS3 drinking more, I just can’t keep up. As far as solids go, we are just in the beginning stages and this is one of those instances where I insist that time=money. I know how easy it is to make baby food (I do make it when I can), but buying is just so much easier.

I’m sure as time goes on this list will grow and grow, so for now I am going to try my hardest to enjoy every precious moment with my new baby, because as they say, “they grow up so quickly!”

Until next time,
Shaindy
