Career Objectives- A Little Late

I know it’s kinda late in the year to be writing my 2013 objectives, but since I was on maternity leave for 12 weeks, I’m just getting to them now. This time of year always makes me a little sad, since I know what my ultimate career goal is and I even know how to go about achieving it. The only obstacle I have is that I also have a family to take care of. They are the most important thing to me in the world and since I already barely have any time with them as it is, I cannot put more time into pursuing my career. At least not right now.

In the meantime, I still have to have objectives (we have one of those official Performance Measurement systems where everything is tracked), so that’s what I was busy with today. It’s always a work in progress, but I have to have something to work towards. Aside from my regular job assignments I want to be involved in some of our department initiatives, so I’ll probably add those in later this week- once I figure out which ones I want to be involved in.

Hopefully, when my kids are a bit older (my oldest just turned 4!), I can focus more on me. For now, it’s my absolute pleasure devoting my time and energy to my family.

How do you balance your career goals with the needs of your family?

Until next time,
Shaindy
