What am I Wearing?

Sometimes I get to work, look at myself in the mirror and wonder, “what on earth am I wearing?!?!

capsule wardrobe

Our morning routine is so rushed, that I really don’t spend all that much time getting dressed.  I put on whatever I think is clean and presentable “enough” and just really hope for the best.  I also wear a lot of black.  Everything matches with black, right?

I don’t have time to analyze whether or not my outfit really looks good or is just a weird combination of mismatched clothes.  I don’t think I’d last a day in the fashion industry.

So far though, I really am lucky.  I’ve never worn two different shoes to work.  I’ve never left the house without my glasses.  I barely ever forget my watch.  And so far, no one has said anything about my wardrobe to me.  At least not to my face.

So, if you happen to work for one of my favorite TV shows-

what-not-to-wear

and you’re looking for volunteer contestants, please let me know when you’ll be in the area!  I could use some help (and time!).

What are some staples you keep in your closet?  How much time do you spend getting dressed every morning?  Do you pick out your clothes the night before?  Any advice for the fashionably challenged?

Until next time,
Shaindy

  1. Lots of basic colors (gray and black dresses and skirts) and some random basic cardigans to mix and match are always easy in the morning. Plus some basic sweaters for the skirts!

I spend one minute getting dressed most days. Maaaaaaaaaaybe two. A bit longer on Shabbos. I’m sure there will be a time in my life that I take longer, but this isn’t it!

  3. I’m with Tali on the prep time. Downsizing my wardrobe to a small, manageable number of things that all go with each other (a la Melissa) was one of the best things I’ve done for my morning routine…and sanity! (I did the end of pregnancy with 3 shirts and 2 skirts, and maybe only a couple more shirts for non-maternity.) Only thing I do the night before is make sure I have something clean and dry. It requires staying on top of laundry, but it beats a constant “does this match?” (with a colorblind husband) and schlepping out tons of clothes every season change.

    • P.S. – Those 2 skirts are identical – I only have 2 so one can be in the wash 🙂

    • I guess I have a similar wardrobe with mostly black skirts, but more so than “does this match?” I have to ask myself, “does this look good?” because after 3 kids and pre-child wardrobe, I have to make sure that what I wear looks “normal” enough to be seen in public. Know what I mean? Maybe that’s a topic for another post though, lol. Thanks for the idea!
