It’s Hard Finding Time for Extras

Did you ever hear the saying, “if you want something done, ask a busy person to do it?”

I always loved this quote. It’s the ultimate compliment to a busy working mom, although lately I don’t feel like it applies to me. I don’t feel like I’ve been getting things done. Our home is running smoothly (for the most part), but I haven’t done any “extras” in a long time.

To me extras include having company, volunteering at my kids school, getting together with friends, and just helping others in general.

I realize that with a full time job and young kids at home I simply cannot spend time on extras. All of my energy is reserved for my kids, my marriage, and my job. That’s just the way it has to be right now and that’s ok.

I’m hoping that one day I’ll be able to have tons of company or run the PTA, but for now I’m starting small.

I am the class mom in DS2’s class. All communication is through email and it’s about the most volunteering I can do right now.  It’s a small way for me to be involved with my kids school without taking on too much.

I also want to try to have Shabbos lunch company within the next 2 months. It’s a short-term goal of mine, but I’ll be ok if we don’t meet it.

Extras are nice to have, but they are just that:  extras.  As long as I have my priorities straight, I’m ok with what I do have.

Until next time,
Shaindy
