The Bad Kind of Co-Sleeping

I know every parenting book talks about how to sleep train your baby, but for the 2 years that DS3 has been alive I’m finding it impossible to do.

While my other kids eventually slept in their beds the entire night, DS3 has never been trained to do so. It’s effecting me, my sleep and probably his sleep too.

You see, sleep training takes time. Time I don’t have. My objective every night is to be sleeping. When DS3 wakes up in the middle of the night, I don’t have the will power to rock him back to sleep in his own bed.

Instead I got in this horrible habit of letting him sleep in my bed. It’s pretty squishy there. Especially when another kid decides to come in too.

I got into this habit a while back when I was so overtired all I wanted to do was make my baby stop crying so I could go back to sleep. The only way to do this was to stay near him. Since his crib wasn’t big enough for me to rest in we were off to my bed. Every. Single. Night.

Now that he’s older, DS3 can come to my bed by himself. Saves me a trip to pick him up.

Right now I have no idea how to get out of this situation. Well, that’s not entirely true. I think if I adjust the sleeping arrangements he might learn to sleep in his bed the whole night.

I guess when I’m ready to make those changes we’ll see if we can break this bad co-sleeping habit.

What do you do when your kids come into your bed at night?

Until next time,
Shaindy
