3 Things I’m Loving: Fitness App, Podcast, and Shoes

Lately, I’ve been in a good mood.  Maybe it’s because summer is finally on its way or maybe it’s because of my refocusing.  Either way I felt like sharing 3 things I’ve been loving lately, so here we go.

1. My Fitness Pal App

I’ve been trying to eat healthier and of course there’s an app for that. I signed up for My Fitness Pal a long long time ago… and signed in on the first (and probably only) day of that diet to record my calorie intake. Now I’m retrying it and as of today I’ve tracked my food for 7 days!

myfitnesspalEven though my diet could definitely use improvement I’m taking those first steps to make sure that everything I put in my mouth is accounted for. It’s helping me avoid snacking out of boredom and is encouraging me to choose the healthier option.
myfitnesspal2The service is free, but of course there’s an ad-free premium version with some additional features. Free works for me. What I like about this app is how easy they make it to track your food. You can enter a recipe (manually or from the web), choose from a huge database of foods already entered and you can even scan the bar code of the food you’re eating.

There’s a way to “friend” people and support each other, but so far I’m only friends with DH and don’t really see the point (maybe it’s good for accountability?). The app can also connect to a tracking devices, like a Fitbit, to help track your overall health.

2. Podcast with Charlie Harary and Jamie Gellar

I’m not a podcast person, but I listened to all 45 minutes of this one. It’s about more than just Jamie’s amazing career. It talks about dreaming big, taking the steps to reach your goals, having a mentor and finding joy.

I found it very interesting to see this side of Jamie. It was encouraging to hear that she also struggles with work-life balance like the rest of us! How true is her saying, “You can have it both but you can’t have it all.” No one is super mom, even if they look that way.

I also loved her honesty about not exercising as much as she could… it reminded me of myself!

3. My new Aerosoles Shoes

I bought these shoes right before Shavuos to replace my very worn out black Aerosoles. They weren’t my first choice, but I’m so glad the store didn’t have the original pair I chose in my size.

aerosolesShoes1These are super comfy and I can dress them up or down. They’ve been perfect for work and long walks. I hope they last – at least until the end of the season.

So, what have you been into lately?

Until next time,
Shaindy
