Accomplish Your Mission With Joy

I often wonder how I ended up here. A full-time working mom.

Working full time with kids was never “my plan”. I used to think that working moms didn’t know how to prioritize. Of course they were putting themselves before their kids if they were out of the house so much.

Well, little did I know.

Fast forward to 2009 and I was on a 6-week maternity leave. As a new mom I felt lost, lonely and completely out of my element. I had waited so long to be a mom, but as I looked at my son I had no idea what to do with him. Surely daycare (who deals with babies all day) would do a better job than I was doing.

And so, after 6 weeks I was back to work. Now after 7 years and 2 more kids, I’m still working and at some points in my life I stop and wonder – how did I get here?

At this point I can’t even imagine what my life would have been like had I not gone back to work. It was just a part of our life and we made the best decisions we could when our family went through changes. Perhaps things would have been different if I had a lower-paying job or couldn’t find good childcare (or won the lottery), but this is my lot in life and I’m learning to love it.

And so, I’ve accepted that my lot in life is that of a working mom. It’s crazy and hectic, but I’m learning to embrace it and enjoy every minute.

Until next time,
Shaindy
