How I Found Time to Take a 6-Week Class (Breakthrough: Part 3)

This is the third post in a three-part series.  I signed up for Devorah Sisso Stieglitz’s Breakthrough class.  Although I got to take the class for free, all opinions are my own.

In Part 1 I discussed what the Breakthrough class is about and why I decided to take it.  Part 2 discussed what I gained from the class and what I loved about it.  And now for the practical part.  I was determined to take this class, but how would I pull it off with such a busy schedule?

Each week I received an email with an MP3, source sheets and homework sheets.  I copied the worksheets onto my Google Drive and saved the MP3 on my phone.  Technology is awesome.  I always had what I needed for the class with me.

Aside from the work I had to do in the class, finding time to take it was really hard.  I had a long commute, but it was generally loud and choppy- I moved from train to train and didn’t have much “me” time.  But I made it work.  I listened to 25-30 minutes of the class at a time, while I was taking notes and internalizing the messages.  I didn’t do this every day, but tried to do it at least 2-3 commutes during the week.  This is also when I did the class homework.

It took me quite a while to complete the class.  With Purim and Pesach in between I did not keep up with the 6-week schedule.  I also found that there were weeks when I worked from home more often than I had done in the past and with fewer commutes, I had less time to listen to the class.

There was however one time I was driving to my doctor’s office alone in the car.  At that time I just remember thinking, “I better turn on the class!” and I did.  I truly just tried to take advantage of the little time I had alone.

I’m a huge believer that if you want something done, ask a busy person. I was a busy person and proved that if you really want something you can make time for it.

Until next time,
Shaindy
