Stop and Smell the Roses

I’m having a bad day. Ok, make that a bad week. It’s the first week of the month, so things at work are crazy hectic. We’ve already been faced with multiple issues and there are even some issues that are re-surfacing from last month. I just want to go home!!

One thing that’s keeping me going right now is this quote that someone sent out to us when he was leaving the firm:

A smile is the only curve which sets lot of things straight.

It’s reminding me that things really aren’t that bad and to just paste a smile on my face.  If I smile, it’ll put things into perspective.

Smiling was especially helpful last night, bath night.  Bath night is always hectic.  We get home after 6pm, kids eat dinner and then we’re off to take baths.  Only problem is that by the time dinner is over, it’s already time for DS2 to go to sleep.  That makes for a very rushed bath time so he’s done with his bath before he gets to that over-tired, cranky unmanageable stage.
Instead of letting the rush get to me, I just made sure to take my time.  If
the kids go to sleep 10 minutes late, it’s not the end of the world.  I have to slow down and really appreciate all of the precious time I spend with them.  I already feel guilty enough not being with them all day, so why am I so anxious to put them to bed?
Well, we all know the answer to that one, but at the end of life, no one wishes they spent more time at work.  It’s time for me to stop and smell the roses!

Until next time,
Shaindy
