It’s Hard Being the New Person

It’s hard being the new person.

A few months ago I started a new job. I wrote about my journey getting there but figured it was high time I give an update. I guess writing this post is really a reflection of what happened in the past few weeks.

I’ve been at this new place for almost 6 months, but it doesn’t matter. People still refer to me as the new person and I hate it!

What I really want to tell all these people is, yes, I am new to the company but I’m not new to work.  I have plenty of experience and am fully capable of contributing to our department (even though I’m “new”).

Six months sounds short, but in reality it isn’t that short of a time. It’s enough time for me to learn all the processes, complete the processes, document the processes, and contribute to the automation of the processes. I’ve done more in 6 months than some people have done in 6 years!

Anyway, aside from being referred to as the “new person” I’ve really been loving my new place. There are some great people and amazing opportunities. I’m excited to be a part of it and that is my motivation.

So, just remember, new people aren’t always ineffective. Sometimes they just have the benefit of having previous experience.

Until next time,
Shaindy
